Die Casting Comparison of Zinc Parts and Aluminum Parts. Kinetic Die Casting Company produces parts for our customers in two types of metals. Aluminum and Zinc alloys. Most of the parts we produce are in aluminum.
When we get a quote request that does not specify the materiel, we ask a few questions to determine which metal would be better for them.
- Does weight matter? Zinc weighs about two and half (2.44) times more than aluminum. In other words, a part that weighs five (5) pounds in aluminum will weigh over twelve (12.22) pounds in zinc.
- Do you need EMI/RF shielding? Do you need electrical conductivity? Aluminum is much more electrically conductive than zinc, making it a better shield for RF/EMI.
- Do you need thermal conductivity? Aluminum is used by many manufacturers as a heat sink.
- Do you want parts with a highly polished finished surface? Zinc polishes very well, much better than aluminum.
- Do you need your parts plated? Zinc parts can be plated much better than aluminum.
- Are you intending to use the parts in a salt environment? Aluminum decays faster than zinc in a salty environment.

This email was sent from a Gmail account, not the official company website address account. The recipient had no name “Good Day”. The phone number listed does not correspond to their company website phone numbers.

Where these two halves meet is called the “parting line”. The parting line on the die casting part is where most of the hand labor is expended. On occasion, parts need to be filed or sanded on the parting line. Many times, a trim die will cut the excess flash from the parting line like a cookie cutter.

Aluminum Heat Sinks for Your Convenience. Aluminum heat sinks have the ability to absorb and disperse heat from another object through thermal contact since aluminum has good electrical and thermal properties. This amazing characteristic makes aluminum heat sinks ideal for cooling purposes. An aluminum heat sink is a piece of molded aluminum usually placed on top of a processor. In most cases, you would first have to remove the heat sink before you would be able to see the processor.
Wherever a need for effective heat dispersal exists, there will undoubtedly be aluminum heat sinks installed. Refrigeration is the foremost industry that employs the use of heat sinks. The aluminum heat sinks produced these days come in various shapes, forms and sizes. The standard heat sink though, contains long fins and thin protruding extensions for directing the heat coming from the processor to the cooler setting inside the heat sink. Majority of today’s heat sinks available in the market are furnished with fans that blow cool air towards the fins to disperse the heat more efficiently. Aluminum Housing for Portable Devices. Portable devices, unlike their bigger counterparts, trade strength for portability. This trade-off is necessary to make the devices portable. Thinner and less dense materials are used to reduce the overall weight of the device. This can be seen in many delicate portable devices which break easily when handled incorrectly. However, there is a method that can be used to protect these devices while still maintaining their portability. This is done through the use of aluminum housings.
An aluminum housing is an enclosure that is designed to protect a device from physical trauma. The housing does this in both its interior and exterior. For exterior protection, the aluminum housing uses its shell as a shock absorber to lessen the impact felt by the device. For interior protection, the device is held in place by screws to prevent the device from moving around while inside the housing. In terms of aesthetics, the aluminum housing has a very plain, straightforward look which may be accented with ridges depending on the manufacturer. They come in a multitude of rich colors which add elegance to the aluminum housing.
Aluminum housings can be purchased in several stores including those that sell devices themselves. These stores however only sell housings that fit the devices they sell. The housings being sold all have predetermined specifications so that they can fit devices from multiple manufacturers. If an individual finds that his device is not compatible with any housing, he may contact aluminum manufacturing plants to have them create a custom housing for his device.
