Examples of Die Casting: Die Casting 101

Examples of Die Casting: Die Casting 101. When talking about the process of molding metal, the best method to use is die casting. Die casting involves employing molten hot metal and forcing it under high pressure and then pouring it into mold cavities. The most common metals used for die casting are usually non-ferrous metals; these include zinc, aluminum, magnesium, copper, lead, tin, and pewter-based metal alloys. Even though, castings made of iron are possible, this is impractical since iron is a much more difficult metal to manipulate than the others and because it cost more.

The die casting method is especially designed for applications where there is a need for large numbers of medium to small sized parts needed. Die casting method is preferred over all the others since it preserves the surface quality of the metal and at the same time its dimensional consistency.

The flexibility and versatility that come with employing die casting has made it one of the fields of metalworking that has achieved the greatest volume products made in the industry. The science of die casting has evolved to also include injection-molded parts made up of plastic. Plastic is replacing metal die casts since it is cheaper and lighter and is a perfect alternative if the die cast does not require strength or hardness.

Where Do You Find Die Cast Heating Plates?

Where Do You Find Die Cast Heating Plates? Die cast parts can be found in virtually everything that people use in their day-to-day lives. Die cast heating plates, in particular, are an integral part in various heating tools. Those who are in the mug printing business normally use mug cup heat press transfer machines that have die cast heating plates to ensure superior durability. Other printing businesses also benefit from flat heat transfer machines (which also make use of heating plates) to transfer images or designs to t-shirts, jigsaw puzzles, ceramic titles, ID badges, placemats, coasters, door hangers, mouse mats, and other flat surfaces on which designs can be printed. In households, various appliances and devices have die cast heating plates. For instance, many kitchenware items, such as pans, electric griddles, electric hot plates, and heating bases of electrical wok sets feature heating plates. Many steam irons also utilize heating plates to ensure high-quality ironing. Die cast heating plates obviously serve an important role in different kinds of devices and machines that are used in everyday life.

Manufacturers of the aforementioned appliances and machines normally source the die cast heating plates from die casting companies. China has the most number of die casting companies, but there are also quite a number of die casting companies in the United States, such as the Kinetic Die Casting Company based in North Hollywood, California, that may also be able to produce heating plates.

The Advantages of Aluminum Golf Products Over Steel

The Advantages of Aluminum Golf Products Over Steel. Presently, more and more golfing and sporting stores are selling aluminum golf products. Compared to steel, aluminum is lighter. Because of its lightness, aluminum has been increasingly used in manufacturing shafts for golf clubs. Lighter shafts allow manufacturers of golf products to come up with slightly heavier golf heads. Since aluminum is not as heavy as steel, aluminum shafts enable golfers to swing faster and increase the ball’s distance with each shot. Additionally, despite its lightness, aluminum shafts still allow clubs to keep the optimal weighting needed for good balance. Like aluminum, there are certain types of steel that also provide golfers with a good feel. However, these steel types don’t really create the ball compression needed by golfers to achieve maximum ball distance.

Aluminum is also cheaper to produce and easier to mold than steel. Additionally, aluminum parts can be manufactured faster with less labor compared to steel. Many aluminum golf products include golf heads that are die cast in aluminum alloy, which is extremely hard and is appropriate for golf head production. In relation to cost, aluminum golf products are generally cheaper than those made from steel. Examples of golf products made from aluminum or with aluminum parts include golf carts with aluminum brackets, handles, and knobs, golf trolleys made with durable aviation-grade aluminum frames, golf retrievers, and golf ball heaters.

The Advantages of Aluminum Chassis Castings Over Plastic

The Advantages of Aluminum Chassis Castings Over Plastic. The use of aluminum chassis castings have increasingly become popular in recent years, particularly in the automobile industry, due to growing pressure to decrease vehicle weight to cut fuel consumption. While both aluminum and plastic are easy to produce, an aluminum chassis can dissipate heat better than a plastic one, thus preventing cars from overheating. Also, aluminum keeps its shape better even in severe weather conditions.

In karting, two of the materials normally used in the construction of the belly pan or chassis of a cart are plastic and aluminum. Both plastic and aluminum chassis castings are lightweight, but plastic is the more inexpensive option. However, the advantages of using aluminum chassis castings far outweigh those of plastic, which has a lot of disadvantages. Compared to aluminum, plastic is not usually thin enough for countersinking to make the fasteners flush. Plastic also has a tendency to discolor and swell when it comes in contact with fuels, oils, and grease. When exposed to warm temperatures, plastic expands and becomes wavy or starts buckling, which results in a wavy belly pan surface. Cold temperatures, on the other hand, cause some types of plastic to become brittle and eventually shatter. Aluminum chassis castings, while being expensive, does not encounter the aforementioned problems that plastic has. Additionally, the biggest advantage of aluminum is that is can be dimpled so that it can give a countersink in thin metal, and this enables the use of flat head screws. The end result is a perfectly smooth belly pan.

Pressure Die Casting Aluminum Hardware Brackets vs. Sand Casting

Pressure Die Casting Aluminum Hardware Brackets vs. Sand Casting. Aluminum hardware brackets are used in fountains, lighting fixtures, and electric fans. In construction projects, aluminum hardware brackets in the form of braces are used to hold wooden beams at the correct angle while a structure is still being built. It goes without saying that aluminum hardware brackets are used for various purposes in everyday life, so how can they be manufactured quickly enough to meet consumers’ needs?

To make aluminum hardware brackets, manufacturers can use either the pressure die casting method or sand casting, which are just two of the many methods used to cast aluminum. Pressure die casting basically involves melting the aluminum, which is then injected under pressure into a hardened steel mold or die in the shape of a bracket. Afterwards, the mold is cooled, often in water. When the aluminum has hardened, half of the mold is moved and ejector pins push out the new aluminum cast that is now a hardware bracket. Sand casting, on the other hand, involves mixing sand with binders and compacting water around metal or wooden pattern halves to produce a mold that is shaped as a bracket. The mold is then removed from the pattern, and aluminum is poured into the mold’s cavities. The mold is cooled first and afterwards, it is broken to remove the aluminum cast which has settled into the shape of the mold. Sand casting is suitable for producing both ferrous and non-ferrous castings in a wide range of sizes and shape complexity, while pressure die casting is appropriate for manufacturing small to medium non-ferrous castings of thin walls and varying complexity. The method for producing aluminum hardware brackets obviously depends on the purpose for which aluminum hardware brackets are to be used.
