CEP Cast Engineering Products Closing
Today, I received the sad news that another local Southern California die casting company competitor is closing. CEP (Cast Engineered Products), is closing their doors. CAST and ENGINEERED PRODUCTS was located at 1746 West 135th Street, Gardena, CA 90249-2508 Telephone Voice:310.323.8460 Sales@cepUSA.com. I have known the owner, Ismail Cuhadar over 30 years. Ismail had over 35 years of experience in the die casting and metals industries. Ismail is a graduate of The University of Southern California and holds Master of Science and Professional Engineer degrees in Mechanical and Design Engineering. I met him when he worked at El Monte Tool and Die Casting Company. Ismail then went to Modern Die Casting Company / Sunny Die Casting Company before he started CEP.
In 1994, Ismail founded CEP in Downey, CA out of Modern/Sunny. Then in 2001, he moved its operations to the larger facility in Gardena, CA to manufacture aluminum and zinc die castings, bronze and copper-nickel porous powder metal parts and other engineered products. I always enjoyed spending time with Ismail, I wish him safety, health and happiness.

Here is a video posted by Myron Bowling the auction company of the die casting robotic arm taking out a die casting part from the die casting machine:
The facility employed approximately 295 people and manufactured component and aftermarket parts used to supply the company’s assembly facilities. “MTD is grateful for the hard work and dedication of these employees and the continued support of the Leitchfield community,” said Craig Dukes, senior vice president of Human Resources. “We recognize the significant impact this closure will have on employees and their families and will be providing separation support including severance benefits, outplacement services and preferential hiring opportunities at MTD’s other US facilities.”
MTD made this decision after careful and ongoing evaluation of its manufacturing footprint in relation to future strategic needs, according to Eric Creech, MTD’s Communications and Marketing Manager. The move will improve overall efficiency and better position MTD to deliver competitive products in a rapidly evolving outdoor power equipment industry.
MTD, located at 2555 Brandenburg Road, remains committed to U.S. manufacturing and has increased employment at its other U.S. manufacturing facilities over the last several years, the company said. The move also allows the company to focus on better leveraging advanced manufacturing capabilities in its other U.S. facilities.

For Large Industries: The Process of High Pressure Die Casting
For Large Scale Industries: The Process of High Pressure Die Casting. The process of high pressure die casting is popular among large scale production lines. It is considered as one of the most cost effective and fastest metal working process, when compared to forging, sand casting and other types of machining. Traditional die casting is also called high pressure die casting because the molten metal is forced into the mold cavity by using high pressure.
The mold cavity is formed by two halves. They are the cover die and the ejector die. The section where the two halves meet is called the parting line. During casting, molten metal is injected between the dies. The metal is allowed to flow through an opening in the cover die half. High pressure, between 10 to 175 mPa, is maintained until the molten metal solidifies. This process of high pressure die casting ensures uniform solidification of the final product. Hence, it produces uniform work pieces with high yield strength. There are two types of the method: cold chamber and hot chamber casting. The choice depends on the melting point of the metal. For example, zinc and aluminum alloys can only be processed in cold-chamber environments.
The process of high pressure die casting has many applications, ranging from the toy industry to automotive and computers. The technique also minimizes, if not totally eliminates, post-machining like sanding or grinding. Therefore, there are less post-production costs. However, this technique is only recommended for large scale businesses. The initial cost of construction of dies, due to painstaking details and strength, is relatively higher than other machining processes.
