Lighting Endcaps in 2021

In September 2008, we looked a Lighting Endcaps for the entertainment industry. Lighting endcaps are typically used to enclose the end of a light fixture. In this case our customer needed sets of a left endcap and a right endcap. This project required only 500 sets of parts each year. The engineer was unsure if Aluminum Die Casting was the answer to her dilemma. Many people were telling her that the minimum run for die castings was 1000’s not 100’s each year.

    Auto Manufacturing in 2021

An automobile body’s weight can be reduced to half if aluminum will be used instead of steel. However, aluminum is still quite hard to form and shape.

    Scientists have developed a process that combines the traditional metal stamping processes with electromagnetic forming technology. This hybrid of a technology can then produce excellent auto parts without the aluminum getting torn in the process. The tool stamps the general shape of the automotive part while the electromagnetic pulses are in charge of helping form and refine the details.

    With studies being conducted nonstop to perfect the processing of aluminum without tearing it, soon more and more aluminum auto parts will be incorporated in newly manufactured cars.

    The Different Alloys Used in Die Casting Manufacturing in 2020

    Die Casting Alloys – The Different Alloys Used in Die Casting Manufacturing. Kinetic Die Casting Company uses different types of metal die casting alloys depending on the needs of our customers.

      The Die Casting Alloys we use are:

    • A360 aluminum die casting alloy
    • A380 aluminum die casting alloy
    • A383 aluminum die casting alloy
    • A413 aluminum die casting alloy
    • ZA27 die casting alloy
    • #3 zinc die casting alloy
    • #5 zinc die casting alloy

    A380 is the die casting alloy we use the most. About 80% of our parts are produced in A380. A380 is the least expensive aluminum alloy. It is very versatile for a very nice finish on a die casting part.

    A360 aluminum die casting alloy is used when corrosion resistance is required. It is used by many manufacturers whose parts are exposed to salt spray or other corrosive environments.

    A413 die casting alloy is another alloy we use to produce a lot of parts. This alloy is used in a lot of thermal conductance applications (heat sinks). It has a very nice surface finish and can be used to cast thinner walls. It has better corrosion resistance than A380.

    A383 alloy is less expensive than A413 and also is used when the die casting part wall thicknesses are thinner than normal.

    ZA27 die casting alloy is used when greater die casting part strength is needed. This die casting alloy is a marriage between aluminum and zinc.

    #3 and #5 zinc die casting alloys are the most common alloys used for zinc die casting. Many of the products that were produced in zinc are now made in aluminum or plastic. Zinc makes up less than 10% of the die casting parts made in America today.

    Machining Aluminum 2020

    Aluminum Parts Machining Differs from Steel Parts Machining. Aluminum can be used in many ways. However there are different ways on how you can work with it. Aluminum parts machining requires less power compared to steel parts or cast iron parts because they are light weight.

    Aluminum parts machining can be different in cast iron machining. It’s the type of tools and tooling technologies that you will use will make a difference.

    Kinetic Die Casting Company makes aluminum die cast parts. If you are working with aluminum parts, the spindle of the machine should be strong and forceful. Spindles require higher speeds along with a lesser low-end torque compared to machining other metals like steel. Also, the spindle should be stiff because it will work in very fast conditions. Other experts on this field recommend the use of HSK tapers to ensure accuracy and rigidity. Moreover, if you are using very fast tools, rotating inertia can be reduced with the use of closed-loop spindles powered by a motor.

    Furthermore, it requires little cutting forces if you are working out with aluminum parts. The machine has to be well-damped and stiff.

    Since you are working with high speeds, there’s a chance of thermal growth. It can create a major problem if you are working out with light metals. It can lead to a major problem if you are working with light metal parts like aluminum.

    Find yourself a machine with thermal control system. A cooling system is recommended in order to reduce the frictional heat in the bearings when the higher spindle speeds up. Also, you must protect the spindle against coolant penetration by sealing it because the entire machining operation of a light metal is not dry.
