Optimal Die Casting Production part Quantity in 2023?

Optimal Die Casting Production Part Quantity? “I need to buy several thousands of parts to buy die castings”. That is the most common myth or false belief people have regarding the optimal die casting part production quantity. We believe, the optimum production quantity of die casting parts is, the quantity of parts you need to buy.

Unfortunately, many die casting companies also believe the “high quantity only” myth. Some die casting companies perpetuate that myth to force their customers into buying more parts than they need. They refuse smaller quantity purchase orders unless their customers pay a very high “set-up charge”. Sometimes, they will push out delivery of lower part quantities to over 12 weeks, in an effort to dissuade the lower quantity part purchase orders. Then sometimes the part quality is “lacking” but the parts are needed so badly, the sub-quality parts are accepted because we do not have 12 more weeks to wait for replacement parts.

Kinetic Die Casting is thrilled to accept die casting part purchase orders of any quantity. We will accept part purchase orders with deliveries of 10,000 parts or less. Many of our part purchase orders have part deliveries of less than 1,000 parts. In fact, many of our aerospace part purchase orders have deliveries of less than 100 parts and sometimes less than 10 parts.

Our part deliveries range from four to six (4-6) weeks for raw castings. No matter what quantity you want, as long as it is less than 10,000 parts. In most cases we will ship your parts in less than six weeks, if we do not need to wait for outside processes to hold up our part delivery.

In most production part purchase orders, we ship your parts the day we make your parts. We do not have departmental delays that can take several days or weeks to process the parts after the parts are produced.

Our optimal die casting part production quantity, is the quantity you want to buy. Contact us today for a competitive price. Your delivery will be less than six weeks.

Die Casting Manufactured using Lean Manufacturing in 2023

Lean Manufacturing Die Casting. Die Casting Parts Manufactured using Lean Manufacturing.

Everyone believes the die casting is solely a “Batch & Que” manufacturing process. Most die casting companies operate using a the department layout (example.

    1. Die Casting Department – 500 Parts produced day one (1) shipped to the trim department on day two (2).
    2. Trimming Department – 500 Parts get trimmed on day two (2) and get shipped to machining department on day three (3).
    3. Machining Department – 500 Parts get machined in machining department on day three (3) and sent to quality department on day four (4).
    4. Quality Department – 500 Parts get inspected on day four (4) and sent to shipping department on day five (5).
    5. Shipping Department – 500 Parts are packaged on day five (5) and shipped to customer on day six (6).
    6. 500 Parts are shipped at least six days after initial production in the die casting machine.

500 parts produced on the first day of the week get shipped (6)six days later, typically next week. If there is a one (1) day Que in each department, it will add another four (4) days to the six (6) days making the delivery ten (10) days after production.

6 – 10 additional days is a long time to wait for die casting parts for some customers.

The Kinetic Die Casting Company Difference
What if a die casting company changed from the department layout and went to lean manufacturing production cell layout?

    1. Die casting one (1) part in one (1) minute is sent to trimmer. Continues making one (1) part a minute until 500 parts complete in 500 minutes or 8.33 hours.
    2. Trimmer trims (1) part 1/4 (.25) minutes and sends (1) part to machine area. Continues trimming next 499 parts.
    3. Machine taps three holes in one (1) part 1/4 (.25) minutes and sends one (1) part for inspection. Continues machining 499 parts.
    4. Inspector checks one (1) part for 1/4 (.25) minutes and sends one (1) part to shipping. Continues inspecting 499 parts.
    5. Shipper packs one (1) part in box 1/8 (.12) minutes. Continues packing 499 parts.
    6. 500 parts complete and shipped to customer in less than ten (10) hours, one shift.

Kinetic Die Casting Company uses a lean die casting manufacturing process to produce die casting parts for our customers. At Kinetic Die Casting Company, in 99% of the 500 part or less production orders, we ship them today.

The Difference between Die Casting or Investment Casting in 2023

The Difference between Die Casting or Investment Casting. If you are to select, what will you favor more; die casting or investment casting process? Choosing between the two is quite a quandary since they have some comparable features. To help you select, this article will help you by presenting the rewards of both techniques.

    Advantages of Die Casting

    1. Die casting delivers difficult shapes with a reasonably high level of accuracy linked to other mass production technique.

    2. Die cast parts are being fashioned at a quicker rate than most of the processes. Also, it needs little to no secondary machining.

    3. Due to its high accuracy when it comes to details, die cast parts are dimensionally stable. In totaling, it is also long-lasting.

    4. The surface of die casting parts is fairly smoother than the metal cast parts shaped by other methods. Also, the surface could be fashioned with a wide variation of uniformities.

    5. Die cast parts, compared to the metal castings fashioned by other methods, can be accomplished with thinner walls.

    Advantages of Investment Casting

    1. Investment casting brings the designer the freedom and malleability of almost myriad alloy choices, and also elasticity in inside and outside configurations.

    2. Investment casting parts are industrial in a way that only trivial secondary machining is vital.

    3. Investment casting procedure doesn’t have any draft requirements, making it more exact when it comes to dimensional conformance.

    4. One thing that Investment casting could assert about is its benefit in aesthetics. Fine details and intricate features, texts and logos are positively attainable.

What is the Quality of Die Casting Parts in 2022?

Die Casting Part Quality, What Is The Quality Of Die Casting Parts?

Die casting parts are formed in a die casting tool to a specific shape and size. The variance of one die casting part to another part from the same tool after the tool is proven is very little.

The typical dimensional tolerance for a die casting part is about +/- .002″ from point to point over a short distance. Once the die casting tool is proven, the dimensions from point to point vary only a little. The blue print tolerance for a two decimal dimension (.xx) is usually +/- .015″ and the typical three decimal dimension (.xxx) tolerance is +/- .010.

The biggest variance on a die casting part are measurements:

    1. From one side of the parting line to the other, or
    2. Dimensions measured from a slide to another part feature.

    PARTING LINE
The parting line is the area on the part where the two sides of the tool meet and create a seam in the material.

    SLIDE
A slide is a solid member in the tool that creates under cuts. An undercut is a feature that can not be created by pulling the tool apart or a feature that is not perpendicular to the parting line.

Other issues such as POROSITY or FLATNESS or WALL THICKNESSES will be discussed in other newsletters.
