Optimism of US Industrial Companies Improves. Large US industrial manufacturers are far more optimistic about domestic and global economies than they were three months ago, but most still expect revenue to be flat or down over the next 12 months, …

The Different Alloys Used at Kinetic Die Casting Manufacturing
Die Casting Alloys – The Different Alloys Used in Die Casting Manufacturing. Kinetic Die Casting Company uses different types of metal die casting alloys depending on the needs of our customers.
-
The Die Casting Alloys we use are:
- A360 aluminum die casting alloy
- A380 aluminum die casting alloy
- A383 aluminum die casting alloy
- A413 aluminum die casting alloy
- ZA27 die casting alloy
- #3 zinc die casting alloy
- #5 zinc die casting alloy
A380 is the die casting alloy we use the most. About 80% of our parts are produced in A380. A380 is the least expensive aluminum alloy. It is very versatile for a very nice finish on a die casting part.
A360 aluminum die casting alloy is used when corrosion resistance is required. It is used by many manufacturers whose parts are exposed to salt spray or other corrosive environments.
A413 die casting alloy is another alloy we use to produce a lot of parts. This alloy is used in a lot of thermal conductance applications (heat sinks). It has a very nice surface finish and can be used to cast thinner walls. It has better corrosion resistance than A380.
A383 alloy is less expensive than A413 and also is used when the die casting part wall thicknesses are thinner than normal.
ZA27 die casting alloy is used when greater die casting part strength is needed. This die casting alloy is a marriage between aluminum and zinc.
#3 and #5 zinc die casting alloys are the most common alloys used for zinc die casting. Many of the products that were produced in zinc are now made in aluminum or plastic. Zinc makes up less than 10% of the die casting parts made in America today.

Drumheller Industries Die Casting Tooling
Drumheller Industries
10967 Tuxford Street
Sun Valley, California 91352
Kinetic Die Casting Company bought Die Casting Tooling at the Drumheller Industries auction on Tuesday September 12, 2012. Much of the zinc die casting tooling were unit die holders to fit small die casting tooling inserts.
Drumheller Industries, located at 10967 Tuxford Street in Sun Valley CA. 91352, made zinc die casting parts for several years. Drumheller Industries sold die cast unit die inserts to their customers as die casting molds but not the die casting holders.
These Drumheller customers will need to use the holders that we purchased to save them money on set up fees on their next production run of zinc die casting parts. The Drumheller inserts and many of their zinc die casting tools fit in our new unit die mold bases. In some cases, these die casting tools can be modified to fit other inserts.
Sadly, the Drumheller customers were given a only few days notice to pick of their die casting molds or insert tools before they closed their doors permanently before the auction. We here at Kinetic Die Casting Company are sad that another manufacturer with a long history in California closed their doors. It is hard to believe that so many manufacturers in California are facing problems that are forcing them to close their doors.
Kinetic Die Casting Company is glad to offer assistance to the manufacturing customers that were doing business at Drumheller Industries. In many cases we can save these manufacturing companies money by using the same mold bases and trim dies that were sold at the Drumheller auction.

Drumheller Industries
Drumheller Industries specializes in zinc parts die casting. Drumheller uses primarily #3 zinc (zamak) for their zinc die casting parts. They are located at 10967 Tuxford Street in Sun Valley, California 91352. Drumheller Die Casting Company has been in business for over 50 years. Drumheller Die Casting has made die cast tooling for the zinc die casting parts. Drumheller uses only unit dies as their die casting tooling.
Mr. Drumheller built his own “Hot Chamber Zinc Die Casting Machines”. Drumheller served his customers in their Zinc Die Casting Part needs by building two different die casting machine sizes to accommodate the two most common unit dies used in die casting.
The Drumheller Die Casting Machine is very interesting. It is a “horizontal” die casting machine. In other words, the die casting mold lays down flat in the machine and opens “up and down” verses the customary machines opening “left and right”. These machines have a special feature that allows for the part to be “die trimmed” in the die casting production cycle. This trimming saves time and money in the production of die casting parts.
Kinetic Die Casting Company works with Drumheller Industries on some projects. Kinetic Die Casting Company is happy to be available to anyone in their zinc and aluminum die casting needs. Call us today if we can be of service:

The Die Casting Part Production Process Explained.
What is the Die Casting Process? The Die Casting Part Production Process Explained.
Kinetic Die Casting Company uses a manufacturing process called “Die Casting” to make aluminum die casting parts and zinc die casting parts. But, what is the die casting part production process? Here is a GIF image I have on our home page to demonstrate:
demonstration of the die casting process
“Aluminum die casting is an aluminum metal parts production process where molten aluminum metal alloy is injected into a steel die, under extreme pressure, to manufacture aluminum parts” (Substitute the word “zinc” for “aluminum” in zinc die casting part production process)
Another GIF example example is on this web page:

Another demonstration of the die casting process
Cold Chamber Die Casting Process
The image pictured above depicts a Cold Chamber Die Casting Machine as it makes parts. The term “Cold Chamber Die Casting” refers to a separate metal melting furnace. The High Pressure Die Casting, cold chamber die casting process follows this sequence:
- Look at the die casting machine image above
- The die casting machine opens the die casting mold.
- The prior part is removed and the die cast mold is sprayed for the next part
- The aluminum is poured using a ladle into a shot cylinder
- The shot piston injects the metal into the die casting mold.
- The machine opens and the process starts again.

Die Casting Comparison of Zinc Parts and Aluminum Parts
Die Casting Comparison of Zinc Parts and Aluminum Parts. Kinetic Die Casting Company produces parts for our customers in two types of metals. Aluminum and Zinc alloys. Most of the parts we produce are in aluminum.
When we get a quote request that does not specify the materiel, we ask a few questions to determine which metal would be better for them.
- Does weight matter? Zinc weighs about two and half (2.44) times more than aluminum. In other words, a part that weighs five (5) pounds in aluminum will weigh over twelve (12.22) pounds in zinc.
- Do you need EMI/RF shielding? Do you need electrical conductivity? Aluminum is much more electrically conductive than zinc, making it a better shield for RF/EMI.
- Do you need thermal conductivity? Aluminum is used by many manufacturers as a heat sink.
- Do you want parts with a highly polished finished surface? Zinc polishes very well, much better than aluminum.
- Do you need your parts plated? Zinc parts can be plated much better than aluminum.
- Are you intending to use the parts in a salt environment? Aluminum decays faster than zinc in a salty environment.
